Keeping up our aim to impact Africa through technology, Seamfix collaborates with MTN on yet another 21 Days of Y’ello Care CSR initiative.  This initiative themed, “Creating a Brighter Future for the Youths” was a brilliant hackathon aimed at encouraging innovation and creativity in solving some pertinent challenges in Nigeria.

The Y’ello care hackathon, as it was called,  was a software development competition that addressed five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa – Quality Education, No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health & Well-Being and Industry Innovation & Infrastructure.

Over a hundred entries were received and were screened to the last five (5) best ideas.

The event held for two days. Day one kicked off with the introduction of the judges of which Seamfix had two representatives – Olamide Ajah (Chief Technology Officer) and Frank Atube (Head of Business Growth), and other Judges from top tech companies in Nigeria.

To begin the presentation was Group Natal Nurse. Group Natal Nurse is an application that caters for pregnant women from antenatal, to checkups, up until delivery.

The second Group to present was the Green Developers, this group developed an application named FarmInvest. This application caters for farmers at the early stage of their business and how to get suppliers and buyers.

The next group presented an app called Oncorpardy, an application that caters for cancer patients. It does by recommending/directing the patients to hospitals and assign a doctor to treat them.

Group four had this amazing application that caters for those in need of food. The objective of the solution is to eradicate the wastage of food as this is very common in the country.

Finally, to close the presentation was Group 5 (South X), they presented an application called Bloodshare, and this application was built to cater for patients in urgent need of blood. This solution helps patients in urgent need of blood locate a matching one instantly. The main objective is to reduce the rate of death in the country.

After all the groups had finished their presentations, the judges asked questions and then rated them accordingly. The audience also had the chance to ask them questions as well while the judges deliberated on the top three.

The judges selected the top 3 groups to proceed to the next stage – Oncorpady, Bloodshare and Natal Nurse.

On the second day of the event, the auditorium was packed full with distinguished guests from both far and near. There were top persons from MTN, sponsors, ambassadors and staff. It was all fun before the winner was announced. The event had a variety of activities like dancing competitions, awards, Gift sharing etc.

To crown the winner, the top three contestants were called to the stage accompanied by the Co-founder of MTN and other distinguished guests. The contestants were all commended for their great work and were encouraged to keep on innovating as winners that they all are.
