The Government of Kogi state in partnership with Skye bank successfully kicked off a biometric data capture for the state’s civil servants. Seamfix Nigeria Limited, being the principal consultant to Skye bank on biometrics and payment, was fully equipped and ready to execute this data capturing exercise. The exercise was flagged off by his Excellency, Capt Idris Wada, The Executive Governor of Kogi State.
The ceremony was attended by a host of other dignitaries some of which included:
The biometric project kicked off on Wednesday, 12th February 2014, the governor and all members of state executive council and permanent secretaries were captured. On Monday, 17th February 2014, the biometric capture was extended to civil servants in Lokoja town. Capture opened in Kogi West senatorial zone on 17th March 2014 while capture opened in Kogi west by 24th of March 2014.
The project was aimed at achieving a centrally-managed biometric record of all state civil servants on Kogi state payroll; producing a clean sheet that can be used for payroll implementation and data gathering that would help Kogi state government in decision making.
As a result of this development, the governor declared that all salary earners in the state government must be captured if they were to continue receiving their earnings.
The biometrics gives one a unique identification that is peculiar to each individual. Biometrics allows for the automation of identity verification, bringing value to the government. Identification becomes faster and more accurate, freeing up civil servants to do value-added work and reducing costs.
Thus, all members of the following groups had their biometric data captured
It was thus clear that the objective of the project which was to have a guaranteed and automated central payroll records system was indeed achieved.
The Governor was full of appreciation to Skye bank for offering the State the project at no cost; and also for helping them to go for the best standard practices in human resource management and payroll implementation.
