Seamfix Simplifies Passport Renewal for the Diaspora with ePass

For millions of citizens living outside their home countries, renewing an international passport can be stressful, expensive, and time-consuming. Long journeys to embassies, extended waiting times, and fragmented processes often turn a basic civic need into a major disruption.

At Seamfix, we set out to change this reality.

In collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Benin, Seamfix designed and delivered ePass, a self-service digital passport renewal platform built on Seamfix’s GovSmart suite. The solution enables Beninese citizens in the diaspora to renew their international passports entirely online, from the comfort of their homes, while giving government agencies a secure and centralized way to manage passport services end to end.

A citizen-first approach to public service delivery

ePass was built to solve a clear problem: how can governments deliver secure, trusted identity services to citizens who live thousands of miles away?

With ePass, eligible citizens no longer need to visit embassies in their country of residence or travel to neighboring countries with consular offices. Instead, they can complete the full passport renewal process remotely using a mobile application.

From application and biometric capture to document submission, payment, and tracking, the entire journey happens digitally. Once approved, passports are produced by the relevant government authority and dispatched directly to applicants through secure delivery channels.

This approach removes long-standing barriers such as travel costs, embassy congestion, and time away from work or family.

Built with government, delivered at scale

The ePass project was delivered through close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration authorities. Seamfix was awarded the project following a rigorous evaluation process and successfully delivered a platform that meets national security, identity, and data protection requirements.

At the core of ePass is Seamfix’s digital identity and biometric technology, delivered through txhe GovSmart suite, which connects biometric capture, verification, and national databases into a single government workflow.

This ensures that governments maintain full oversight and trust in the process, while citizens enjoy a simpler and more accessible experience.

A Global Launch with Real Traction

In October, Seamfix launched ePass globally, making the platform accessible to Beninese citizens across 80+ countries. Since launch, adoption has continued to grow as more diaspora citizens experience the convenience of renewing their passports without physical embassy visits.

The platform supports both adult and minor passport renewals, with appropriate guardian authentication and verification steps built into the process. Applicants can also track their requests in real time and receive notifications if additional information is required.

More Than a Product — A Blueprint for Modern Government Services

While ePass was delivered for the Republic of Benin, the implications go far beyond a single country.

ePass demonstrates how governments can modernize essential public services for diaspora populations without compromising security or compliance. It shows that identity services can be remote, secure, and citizen-friendly at the same time.

As governments look for better ways to connect with citizens beyond their borders, Seamfix remains committed to delivering secure, practical, and scalable digital identity solutions that meet real public needs.
